THE VENUE

The venue

Hotel Hills is a conference hotel with an on-site congress centre. Here is what the venue includes.

Main hall with 1,500 seats

The main hall covers 1,700 square metres and seats 1,500 in theatre layout. It can also be divided into three rooms for parallel sessions. Keynotes are held here.

Six additional conference rooms

Six further rooms seat between 60 and 120 in theatre layout. Moving between tracks is straightforward and stays within the same building.

500 square metres of foyer space

The reception area for conference participants covers 500 square metres. This is where coffee breaks, sponsor stands, and informal discussions take place.

On-site AV and technical support

The congress centre has its own projection, sound, and stage lighting. The hotel technical team is on site throughout the event, and the rooms are set up for large conferences.

GETTING HERE

Getting there

Sarajevo International Airport is two kilometres from the hotel. The transfer is short and straightforward.

  1. Fly to Sarajevo

Sarajevo has direct flights from cities including Istanbul, Vienna, Zagreb, Belgrade, and Dubai. Timetables vary by season, so check schedules before booking around the summit dates.

  2. From the airport to the hotel

The airport is two kilometres from Hotel Hills. Taxis are available outside arrivals. The hotel address is Butmirska cesta 18, Ilidza.

  3. Into the old town by tram

Tram line 3 runs from Ilidza to Bascarsija over 13.4 kilometres and 22 stops. Allow 30 to 45 minutes, depending on the time of day.

  4. Arriving by road

Sarajevo can be reached by road from Zagreb, Belgrade, Split, and Dubrovnik. Mountain roads reduce average speeds, and border crossings can add time if you are travelling from outside Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Thermal spa and pools

The hotel is built around Ilidza's thermal springs. Facilities include indoor and outdoor pools, a Finnish sauna, a bio sauna, a Turkish hammam, a Roman bath, and a salt room.

Restaurants on site

The hotel has several restaurants, including a rooftop restaurant with views across the valley. It is a practical option for evening meetings or dinner after sessions.

AROUND ILIDZA

Around Sarajevo

Ilidza is the western edge of Sarajevo. If you have time before or after sessions, these are the closest places to go.

Velika Aleja

A 3.5 kilometre avenue running west from Ilidza, lined with around 3,000 chestnut and plane trees, many more than a century old. Horse-drawn carriages still use the route in season.

Vrelo Bosne

At the end of the avenue is the source of the river Bosna, with streams, small islands, and footbridges. It is an easy half-day visit from the hotel.

Bascarsija

Sarajevo's Ottoman bazaar quarter sits at the far end of tram line 3. It is the city's historic centre and an easy evening trip from Ilidza.

WHY SARAJEVO

Did you know that the world's first ZX Spectrum emulator has been built in Sarajevo under the siege?

In 1993, while Sarajevo was under siege and electricity was available for only a few hours each night, Samir Ribic and Zeljko Juric wrote Warajevo, a ZX Spectrum emulator for MS-DOS. One of them worked from an army camp using a machine powered by a car battery, which failed whenever someone used it to make coffee.

The software was released in 1994. It remains a concise example of the city's technical resourcefulness under pressure.
